Below is the full text of the statement issued by the striking prisoners during this 32nd week of the hunger strike:
On the eve of the anniversary of Mahsa Amini’s death, the ruling minority in Iran has once again committed severe violations of human rights.
Last Tuesday, August 28, as hundreds of prisoners staged a hunger strike in various prisons across the country, Iran’s judiciary publicly executed a prisoner in Shahroud—a shocking act reminiscent of medieval practices that sparked outrage and condemnation from human rights advocates and the general public.
In addition to this public execution, two other deaths at the hands of authorities further exemplified the regime’s disregard for the “right to life.” In Lahijan, a detainee named Seyyed Mohammad Mir Mousavi lost his life under suspicious circumstances, while another prisoner, Komeil Abolhassani, was reportedly tortured to death by prison police and security agents in Tonekabon Prison. These brutal actions reveal a systematic cruelty, depriving citizens of their basic rights and drawing widespread condemnation.
Murder of Seyyed Mohammad Mir Mousavi by Police Officers
The recent killings carried out by government agents, which are unlikely to lead to any accountability for those responsible, coincided with the issuance of a death sentence for political prisoner Abbas Tauranji in Bam Prison, Kerman Province. Abbas Tauranji, imprisoned through a deeply flawed and opaque process, has been denied fundamental rights such as a fair trial. He now faces a death sentence for the alleged murder of a security guard, a charge decided behind closed doors, placing his life in imminent danger.
It is well known that Iranian society is grappling with severe economic, cultural, and political challenges, and that citizens’ protests against these crises are consistently met with government repression, imprisonment, and executions.
Recent events suggest a growing resolve among Iranians to resist this theocratic tyranny—a determination embodied by prisoners who have been on hunger strike for 32 consecutive weeks in the “No to Execution Tuesday” campaign. This steadfast resistance continues despite severe pressures on those participating.
According to reliable human rights sources, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign has now spread to 21 prisons across Iran, with additional prisoners joining from Asadabad Prison in Isfahan and Bam Prison in Kerman Province. The campaign has recently garnered the support of 68 Iranian and international human rights organizations.
Statement of Solidarity from Asadabad Mobarakeh Prison
As of last week, prisoners from 21 facilities—including Evin Prison (Women’s Ward, Wards 4 and 8), Ghezel Hesar Prison (Units 3 and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Greater Tehran Prison, Khorramabad Prison, Nizam Shiraz Prison, Mashhad Prison, Lakan Prison in Rasht, Qaemshahr Prison, Tabriz Prison, Ardabil Prison, Urmia Prison, Salmas Prison, Khoy Prison, Naqadeh Prison, Saqqez Prison, Baneh Prison, Marivan Prison, Kamyaran Prison, Asadabad Prison in Isfahan, and Bam Prison—have united in condemning the issuance and execution of death sentences, demanding an end to the death penalty and this “inhumane situation.”
The prisoners have also condemned the recent brutal murders of Mohammad Mir Mousavi and Komeil Abolhassani, decrying these actions as violations of the “right to life” of Iranian citizens. They call on the freedom-loving people of Iran and all prisoners to support and join the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign, urging a unified stand against the death penalty and these ongoing injustices.
