Vahid Chavaran, who has been suffering from a viral illness for a long time in Ilam Prison, is in critical physical condition. According to an informed source, he has become extremely weak due to his illness and urgently requires medical treatment. Despite his family’s efforts to secure medical furlough by offering bail, judicial authorities have refused to grant it.
Medical facilities in Ilam Prison are extremely limited and inadequate, failing to meet the medical needs of this political prisoner. The continued denial of proper medical care and furlough persists as his health worsens day by day.
Who is Political Prisoner Vahid Chavaran?
On Friday, June 23, 2023, Vahid Chavaran was arrested while attempting to leave the country and was later transferred to the Ilam Intelligence Detention Center. Prior to this, in April 2023, security forces raided his home to arrest him but were unsuccessful.
In December 2023, Branch 2 of the Ilam Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Rajab Mohammadi, sentenced him to 12 years in prison and exile to Zahedan. This verdict was upheld in February 2025, with the Appeals Court ruling that he must serve his sentence in Zahedan under conditions of complete isolation.
