Maryam Hassani, daughter of political prisoner Mehdi Hassani, who has been sentenced to death in Iran, has released an emotional public video message calling on people not to abandon her family. She urged all concerned individuals to stand together to defend human dignity and prevent the destruction of a family’s life.
In this video message, directly addressing the public, Maryam Hassani stated:
“I am Maryam Hassani, daughter of political prisoner Mehdi Hassani, who has been in prison for over four years. My father’s retrial request has been rejected for the fourth time, as his lawyer wrote on social media.
They are proceeding with this case without even allowing access to the file, without reading it.
I am recording this message for all those whose hearts beat for justice, for everyone concerned with humanity, for those who believe in ‘No to Executions’ for all. I hope you will stand by us, support us, and not allow the names of political prisoners to be forgotten.
I may appear to be speaking only for my father, but my pain extends to all political prisoners. As all political prisoners are dear to me, I am active on their behalf both as part of the Daughters for Justice campaign and as Maryam Hassani myself. I ask you to stand with us and not leave us alone on this path.”
According to a post by Amin Adel, Mehdi Hassani’s lawyer, shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), on Saturday, July 12, 2025, the Supreme Court of Iran rejected Hassani’s retrial request for the fourth time. The rejection reportedly occurred without a thorough review, without allowing the defense lawyer access to the case files, and without upholding the right to a fair trial.
Amin Adel wrote: “For the fourth time, Mehdi Hassani’s retrial request was rejected, likely without even examining the main case file or reading my defense brief. I have not been granted permission to review the file. Mr. Hassani is currently held in Ghezel Hesar Prison, and the risk of his death sentence being carried out is very serious.”
A similar rejection had occurred previously on May 20, 2025, with the lawyer again reporting that he had not been granted access to the case file, and an execution order had been issued without a proper stay of execution.
This latest decision has sparked widespread reactions from civil society organizations and human rights advocacy groups inside Iran and internationally, highlighting ongoing concerns about judicial transparency and the treatment of political prisoners in the country.
