79th Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 48 Prisons Across the Country

July 29, 2025
FacebookTwitterEmail

On Tuesday, July 29, 2025, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign enters its seventy-ninth week. This comes as two members of the campaign, political prisoners Mehdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani Eslamloo, were hastily executed in Qezel Hesar Prison without prior notice to their families.

In this week’s statement, the prisoners, emphasizing the continuation of resistance, write:

“Despite a brutal attack on the heart of the campaign… this campaign continues with resilience and unity.”

Alongside condemning the new wave of repression and executions, they call upon all awakened consciences to raise the voice of “No to Execution” louder than ever.

The full text of the seventy-ninth week statement of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign is as follows:

Continuation of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 48 Prisons – Seventy-Ninth Week

Execution of Two Political Prisoners, Mehdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani Eslamloo, Members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign

Despite a brutal attack on the heart of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign in Qezel Hesar Prison, this campaign continues with resilience and unity.

The regime, incapable of resolving its internal and external crises, has drawn its sword against the people more than ever. In this context, the government of executions and repression, on the morning of Sunday, July 27, 2025, executed two members of this campaign, political prisoners Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani, in Qezel Hesar Prison, in an unjust process, without prior notice and without a final meeting with their families.

Prior to this, on Saturday, July 26, 2025, under the order of Qezel Hesar Prison’s warden, Allah-Karam Azizi, and his deputies, Hassan Ghobadi and Esmaeil Farajnejad, more than 100 armed prison guard officers and intelligence forces stormed the political prisoners’ ward in Unit 4 of the prison. The officers transferred all political prisoners of this unit to solitary confinement with handcuffs, shackles, and hoods over their heads. Following this attack, Saeed Masouri, one of the initial signatories of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” call, was transferred to Zahedan Prison for exile.

In response to this criminal act, defiant prisoners in Qarchak Prison and Greater Tehran Prison chanted slogans and held ceremonies, reaffirming their commitment to stopping executions.

Also, in the past week, political prisoner Yaghoub Derakhshan, who had previously been arrested on charges of propaganda against the regime, was sentenced to death in Lakan Prison in Rasht.

Yaghoub Derakhshan

Over the past week, at least 20 people were executed in various prisons across the country. Furthermore, during the one-year presidency of Pezeshkian, the number of executions has reached at least 1,477 individuals—a figure higher than in previous years, and significantly higher than during Raisi’s tenure.

Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Eje’i, the Head of the Judiciary, openly announced the intensification of repression during his press conference last week. He stated that more than 2,000 individuals were arrested solely during the so-called “12-day war.”

We, the members of the campaign, believe that the regime’s aim in these unrelenting acts of violence is to create fear and to silence a society which, despite all pressures, continues to insist on its rightful demands for justice, freedom, human dignity, and the right to self-determination.

We, the members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign in 48 prisons across the country, condemn the inhumane and unjust executions and repression of prisoners. We call on all awakened and freedom-loving consciences, inside and outside the country, to amplify the cry of “No to Execution” by actively supporting the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, and to place the expansion of this campaign—despite the regime’s efforts—at the top of their agenda by all possible means.

We express our deep concern about the condition of political prisoners who are members of the campaign, who played an irreplaceable role in launching this movement and have been transferred to unknown locations. We urge everyone not to leave the families of executed prisoners and members of the campaign alone. The lives of political prisoners in Qezel Hesar Prison and other prisons in Iran are in grave danger.

We call upon prisoners to take inspiration from the defiant prisoners and women in Qarchak Prison and Greater Tehran Prison, and through holding ceremonies, to ensure that the blood of the brave who were hanged is not trampled upon and the voices of the founders of the campaign are not silenced in obscurity and silence.

The key to victory for freedom and equality, and for pushing back tyranny and reaction, lies in unity and collective solidarity.

The hunger strike for the seventy-ninth week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in the following 48 prisons:

Qezel Hesar Prison (Units 3 and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Fardis Prison of Karaj, Greater Tehran Prison, Qarchak Prison, Khorin Varamin Prison, Choobindar Prison of Qazvin, Ahar Prison, Arak Prison, Khorramabad Prison, Yasouj Prison, Asadabad Prison of Isfahan, Dastgerd Prison of Isfahan, Sheiban Prison of Ahvaz, Sepidar Prison of Ahvaz (men’s and women’s wards), Nezam Prison of Shiraz, Adelabad Prison of Shiraz (men’s and women’s wards), Firouzabad Prison of Fars, Zahedan Prison (women’s ward), Borazjan Prison, Ramhormoz Prison, Behbahan Prison, Bam Prison, Yazd Prison, Kahnouj Prison, Tabas Prison, Mashhad Prison, Gonbad-e Kavus Prison, Qaemshahr Prison, Rasht Prison (men’s and women’s wards), Roudsar Prison, Haviq Prison of Talesh, Ezbaram Prison of Lahijan, Dizelabad Prison of Kermanshah, Ardabil Prison, Tabriz Prison, Urmia Prison, Salmas Prison, Khoy Prison, Naqadeh Prison, Miandoab Prison, Mahabad Prison, Boukan Prison, Saqqez Prison, Baneh Prison, Marivan Prison, Sanandaj Prison, and Kamyaran Prison.
