Hojjat Al-Mohammadi, a political prisoner from Izeh, has been held in limbo for nearly a year in Ward 5 of Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz, without a court hearing. Since September 16, 2024, he has been deprived not only of a fair trial but also of access to adequate medical treatment.
According to informed sources, his case has been repeatedly transferred between the Ahvaz and Izeh prosecutor’s offices, without any judicial session being held. This situation has placed additional pressure on him and his family. A family member says:
“Hojjat Al-Mohammadi’s case has remained unresolved for more than 360 days, and no court has been convened to address it. This issue has not only caused him severe psychological distress but has also put his family in a very difficult situation.”
Arrest Process
On September 16, 2024, security forces raided Hojjat Al-Mohammadi’s home in Izeh, arrested him, and transferred him to the detention center of the Ahvaz Intelligence Department. After enduring lengthy interrogations, he was moved to Sheiban Prison, where he remains in pretrial detention.
Physical Condition and Denial of Medical Care
During this time, he has repeatedly suffered from health problems, but no effective medical care has been provided. Sources stress that medical facilities in Sheiban Prison are extremely limited, and prisoners are only transferred to hospitals in critical situations. Hojjat Al-Mohammadi’s family has repeatedly requested medical attention for him, but these appeals have been completely ignored by the authorities.
Conditions in Sheiban Prison
Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz is one of Iran’s most notorious prisons, frequently criticized by human rights organizations for overcrowding, lack of sanitary facilities, and denial of medical care and family contact. Like many other political prisoners, Hojjat Al-Mohammadi is held under harsh conditions and severe restrictions.
Clear Violation of Human Rights
The year-long uncertainty surrounding Hojjat Al-Mohammadi constitutes a blatant violation of his fundamental rights, including the right to a fair trial, access to medical treatment, and the right to live under humane conditions. This ongoing situation has endangered both his physical and mental health and placed unbearable pressure on his family.
