The 96th Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 55 Prisons Across Iran

FacebookTwitterEmail

On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, the ninety-sixth week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign expanded to 55 prisons with the addition of Birjand Central Prison. In this week’s statement, prisoners referred to the execution of 1,479 individuals since the beginning of the Iranian year )March 21,2025) and the death sentence issued for Mohammad Mehdi Soleimani, calling the escalating trend of executions a blatant example of a “crime against humanity.” The statement also described the adoption of the 72nd UN resolution condemning human rights violations in Iran as a decisive legal fact.

With Birjand Central Prison Joining, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign Expands to 55 Prisons in its 96th Week

The ninety-sixth week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign arrives as the repressive apparatus in Iran, in a bid for its own survival, has intensified the execution of prisoners with unprecedented acceleration. The widening scope of executions, in the absence of fair trials and the systematic use of capital punishment as a tool to create fear and terror, is a flagrant violation of fundamental human rights and a blatant example of a crime against humanity.

This week, Birjand Central Prison joined the 54 other prisons conveying the message of “No to Execution” to society from behind prison walls.

This week, the adoption of the 72nd United Nations resolution condemning human rights violations in Iran recognized two decisive legal truths:

  1. Recognition of the 1988 massacre and expression of concern over its recurrence.
  2. Condemnation of the unprecedented trend of executions and the regime’s use of capital punishment as a tool of intimidation and suppression.
Mohammad Mehdi Soleimani

Despite this, the regime does not cease its executions and killings. The issuance of a death sentence for Mohammad Mehdi Soleimani—one of those arrested during the 2022 uprising—is not an exceptional case but a consistent pattern of eliminating protesters and is characteristic of an invalid and politicized judicial process. In the Iranian month of Aban alone (October 23- November 21), 311 people were executed, a number unprecedented since the 1988 massacre. Furthermore, 59 people have been executed in the past week, and 1,479 have been executed since the beginning of the Iranian calendar year in March 2025.

The families of prisoners on death row, despite threats, summonses, arrests, and security pressures, stand in the streets week after week to defend the lives of their loved ones. This is a protest that demands the broad support of the Iranian people and the international community.

On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, during its ninety-sixth week, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign is on a hunger strike in the following 55 prisons:

Evin Prison (men’s and women’s wards), Qezel Hesar Prison (Units 2, 3, and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Fardis Prison in Karaj, Greater Tehran Penitentiary, Qarchak Prison, Khorin Prison in Varamin, Choubindar Prison in Qazvin, Ahar Prison, Arak Prison, Langarud Prison in Qom, Khorramabad Prison, Borujerd Prison, Yasuj Prison, Asadabad Prison in Isfahan, Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan, Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz, Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz (men’s and women’s wards), Nezam Prison, Shiraz, Adelabad Prison in Shiraz (men’s and women’s wards), Firozabad Prison in Fars, Dehdasht Prison, Zahedan Prison (men’s and women’s wards), Borazjan Prison, Ramhormoz Prison, Behbahan Prison, Bam Prison, Yazd Prison, Kahnuj Prison, Tabas Prison, Mashhad Prison, Sabzevar Prison, Gonbad-e Kavus Prison, Qaemshahr Prison, Rasht Prison (men’s and women’s wards), Rudsar Prison, Haviq Prison in Talesh, Ezbaram Prison in Lahijan, Dizelabad Prison in Kermanshah, Ardabil Prison, Tabriz Prison, Urmia Prison, Salmas Prison, Khoy Prison, Naqadeh Prison, Miandoab Prison, Mahabad Prison, Bukan Prison, Saqqez Prison, Baneh Prison, Marivan Prison, Sanandaj Prison, Kamyaran Prison, Ilam Prison, and Birjand Central Prison.
