In a letter addressing Mrs. Michelle Bachelet, the UN Human Rights High Commissioner, political prisoner, Arash Sadeqi, confined at Karaj Rajaee Shahr Prison, protests case-makings against political prisoners, their deprivation of medical care and their exile to a city other than their hometown.
The letter reads:
“Golraokh Iraee who was arbitrary transferred form Qarchak Prison to the IRGC Intelligence detention center known as Ward2A of Evin Prison on December 13, 2020, while being beaten by baton and shocker, was taken back to Qarchak Prison on January 24, 2021, after being under interrogation for 43 days. Just a few minutes after this transfer, without letting her to take her personal belongings, only with a blouse and a pant that she was wearing, she was transferred in the middle of the night to Amol Prison, to exile.
The inmates in that ward are about 50 who are confined in two small rooms on charge of using, storing, and dealing drugs.
They don’t have a normal condition because of using drugs and methadone, and their behavior is dangerous, inflicting potential harm to themselves and the others. Some of them are infected with hepatitis for using syringes with the possibility to infect the other inmates in these crowded rooms which contain up to 30 people sometimes.
As the prison has new inmates and it is not possible there for them to be quarantined, the possibility of the coronavirus infection rises at this prison jeopardizing the life of the inmates.
Exiling political prisoners
Exiling political prisoners on this excuse that we are sending you to your birth place is not legal. It makes it hard for the inmate to have a visitor as well as inflicting other hardships on them. This is while according to the Prison Organization’s regulations, a prisoner must be confined at the closest prison to where he/she lives. Prisoners who have been exiled in a year interval are:
- Miss. Zainab Jalalian, exiled to Yazd Prison; in one year Zainab has been exiled to 4 different prisons
- Ms. Samaneh Norooz Moradi, exiled to Rasht Lakan Prison
- Ms. Saba Kurd Afshari, exiled to Varamin Qarchak Prison
- Mrs. Zahra Safaee, exiled to Ahvaz Prison
- Changiz Qadam Khairi, exiled to Ahvaz prison
- Reza Mohammad Hossini, exiled to Karaj Rajaee Shahr Prison
- Medi Meskin Navaz, exiled to Karaj Rajaee Shahr Prison
- Ms. Maryam Samqani, exiled to Gorgan Prison
- Ms. Soheila Hejab, exiled to Varamin Qarchak Prison
- Arsham Rezaee, exiled to Karaj Rajaee Shahr Prison
- Ms. Yasaman Aryaee, exiled to Karaj Kachooee Prison
- Ms. Monireh Arab Shahi, exiled to Kachooee Prison
- Mrs. Nasrin Sotoodeh, exiled to Varamin Qarchak Prison
Denial of medical care
During several years, many of the prisoners have been deprived of medical treatment on the order of Amin Vaziri, the prosecutor’s representative.
Among those one can name:
- Ms. Samaneh Noroozi Moradi suffering from joint lupus and breast cancer
- Mrs. Fatemeh Mothanna, suffering from severe intestinal bleeding; both the prison doctor and the specialist have confirmed that she cannot tolerate prison.
- Miss. Atena Daemi; having a noddle in her breast

- Miss. Zahinab Jalalian, suffering from eye problems
- Mohammad Noorizad, suffering from heart problem
- Hashem Khastar, suffering from heart problem
- Mrs. Raheleh Ahmadi, suffering from motion problems due to a nervous breakdown when her daughter Saba Kurd Afsahri was transferred to another prison. As her lawyer has said, the specialist has said that it is even possible that she becomes paralyzed
- Ms. Monireh Arabshahi, suffering from thyroid edema making it hard for her even to talk
Last words:
I wrote this letter to bring proofs that the human rights condition is deteriorating in Iran. The sharp reaction of the high authorities of this republic as not to permit a visit by the Special Rapporteur is just because the depth of the catastrophe is so horrific that the regime prefers to accept the shame of not accepting the Special Rapporteur to the shame of the crimes it had committed during these 41 years.
