Iran: Inmates deprived of water for over a month

Prisoners have been cut off from hot and cold water for a month under the pretext of repair-construction work in Varamin Khordin Prison, west of Tehran.
Prisoners are currently in dire conditions, facing hygienic problems and their health is at risk.
Due to the illnesses caused by such prison conditions, the only means of hygiene in the prison is hot water for bathing which is now denied to the inmates.
The prisoners must provide their own drinking water from outside the penitentiary and pay double the costs.
Authorities have told the prisoners $925.30 needed to repair the prison powerhouse and they are refusing to provide any services.
The prison’s drinking water relies on contaminated water wells, causing health problems for inmates. As a result, food servings are filled with sand and pebbles.
