An inmate was hanged on July 10 for drug related charges in Mahabad Prison in Iranian Kurdistan. Having been imprisoned for five years, Sheikh Morad Ebrahimi, had been put to death despite having no previous criminal record.
Mr. Ebrahimi was a single parent with a young daughter suffering from autism. He also supported his own sister.
On the same day two inmates were executed on drug charges in Central Prison of Gorgan, in northern Golestan province. They were identified as 50-year-old Saadatollah Nouri and 32-year-old Mohammad Taghi Saravani. They had been transferred to solitary confinement on Sunday, July 9.
In another development, two drug traffickers on July 11 were executed in Semnan Prison, east of Tehran, according to the state-run ROKNA news agency. The two have not been named by the authorities.
Iran has executed at least 43 people since the start of July, mostly for non-lethal offences, particularly for drug-related crimes.
