Branch 28 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court, fabricated new charges against the Iranian musician Yousef Emadi. As a result, he was sentenced to an additional year behind bars and two years of exile to Bushehr for “spreading propaganda against the establishment.”
He was told that the reason for this charge is “communicating with media for providing a brief documentary report.”
Last year on June 25, 2016, UN human rights experts on cultural rights and on freedom of expression in a statement expressed concern at the imprisonment and imposition of heavy fines against Yousf Emadi and two other artists in the Islamic Republic of Iran and called for their immediate release.
Yousef Emadi was sentenced to six years in prison and fined 50 million Rials (about $1,658) for “insulting Islamic sanctities,” “propaganda against the State” and for “conducing illegal activities in the audiovisual affaires including through producing prohibited audiovisual material and performing an illegal and underground music site.” The statement reads in part.
