Early Saturday morning Iran hanged nine men convicted of rape in Adel Abad Prison of Shiraz, south-central Iran, the state-run Mehr News Agency reported.
Mehr noted in its report that the executions came after the nine men had been tried and convicted in a trial and the verdicts were upheld by the Branch 29 of the Supreme Court.
The state-run news agencies had earlier named those convicted of rape as Abdolkhalegh Safaie, Aliakbar Haghighi, Ali Shah Alian, Hamidreza Safaie, Behnam Roustaie, Ehsan Safaie, Mohammadreza Safaie, Davoud Zare’i and Mehdi Zamani.
The men, all under 23, were hanged despite the rape victim’s withdrawing her complaint.
