The head of the Prison Organization said that 10,000 (men and women) had filed for divorce because their spouses were jailed.
The state-run Borna news website quoted Jahangir on May 31, 2017 as saying “Last year, 2,500 children of prisoners who were exposed to drug addiction were identified. 700 children of prisoners had also dropped out of school.”
“According to statistics, 22 percent of prisoners do not have visitors. When prison terms get lengthy, visits drop.” Jahangir added.
