Iran: At least two were hanged in Rasht and Arak

A 32-year-old man was executed on July 8 on drug related charges in Lakan Prison of Rasht, capital of the northern province of Gilan.
Hossein Hosseini was arrested in 2013, after the State Security forces seized some tools and instruments which they claimed were used to produce narcotics.
According to a source close to the prisoner’s family, Mr. Hosseini was beaten up, tortured and forced to confess that he had produced and sold drugs. Despite having no other evidence, he was issued a death sentence based on confessions extracted under torture, he said.
There is also unconfirmed news that six other prisoners were hanged along with Mr. Hosseini.
In another development, an inmate identified as Vali Abdi was also hanged on July 9 for drug offenses in the Central Prison of Arak, Central Province.
These executions have not yet been made public by the Iranian regime as this report is being published.
