The state-run ISNA news agency is reporting that  the authorities have amputated the hand of a convicted thief on January 17, 2018, in the Central Prison of Mashhad, northeastern Iran.

The report says, the authorities cut off the 34-year-old victim’s hand by guillotine. It said the convict referred to as Ali.Kh was immediately sent to a hospital for treatment.

The Thursday report further said Ali was detained in 2011 for allegedly stealing livestock, jewelry and motorbikes. Earlier, the Provincial Penal Court sentenced Ali-Kh to hand amputation.

The defendant who was arrested in 2011, appealed the sentence however he Khorasan Criminal Court of Appeal upheld the verdict and considered it as “lawful and legitimate.”

A Judiciary official on January 17, 2018, stressed on cross amputation for offenders.
The state-run Fars news agency on the same day cited Judiciary Spokesperson Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje’I as saying that there would be a strict punishment for anyone who created insecurity in the community.

Referring to the punishment of offenders according to religious law, he said that “a leg and hand can be amputated.”

“Another punishment we have in mind for those who create insecurity in the community is either execution or to permanently cut them off from the community so they would not have the right to return to their life and people.”

This is the importance of security and order in the community,” he stressed.
