On the morning of Tuesday, July 23, 2024, the execution sentences of seven prisoners, including one Baloch prisoner, one Kurdish prisoner, and three female prisoners who had previously been sentenced to death on charges related to drug offenses, were carried out in Birjand Prison.
Based on reports received by the Iran Human Rights Monitor (Iran HRM), in the early hours of Tuesday, July 23, 2024, the execution sentence of 7 prisoners in Birjand Central Prison has been carried out, with only the identities of two of them confirmed.
Vahid Vahdani, a 33-year-old Kurdish citizen from Bojnurd, and Amir Hamzeh Barahoui Mojarad, a resident of Zabol living in Fazelabad, Golestan province, are among those executed. The identities of three other women and two men who have been executed are still under review.
A knowledgeable source informed the Iran Human Rights Monitor: “No drugs were found on Amir Hamzeh, and he had repeatedly denied the charges brought against him in court.” Amir Hamzeh Barahoui is married and has two children. He was a resident of Zabol city. In 2019, he was arrested in Birjand on drug-related charges and was sentenced to death in the court of that city.
The executed Kurdish prisoner was named Vahid Vahdani. He was 33 years old and a resident of Bojnurd. It is worth mentioning that the prisoners «Vahid Vahdani» and «Amir Hamzeh Barahoui MojaradL» were executed without a final visit or meeting with their families.
The execution of these seven prisoners has not been announced in any of the state-run media outlets at the time of the publication of this news, and these executions have taken place in silence without any news coverage or media attention.
