According to reports, 10 detainees from Nasirabad in Sistan and Baluchistan Province have still not received their final verdicts and are kept in a state of limbo in prison despite promises from officials that they would soon be released on bail.

These men were detained on January 4, 2013 after Revolutionary Guards Corps agents raided their homes while they were sleeping. Thirty-five months after their arrest, non-public trials without the presence of their family were held for only three of the detainees on the 10th, 13th and 14th of March in Zahedan.

Officials had on several occasions promised a “speedy release” to the prisoners but according to the prisoners’ relatives, the promises were made to prevent the media from following their cases.

The prisoners were tried on charges of “acting against national security” but there is no information on the details of their cases. The detained men had told their families that they were tortured to make dictated confessions.
