Shahab Nadali, a political prisoner from Hamedan, has been convicted and sentenced to execution by Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Iran, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, in a fabricated case on charges of “membership in opposition groups” and “connection with the Mojahedin and armed cooperation with them” accused of rebellion. Shahab Nadali is a 42-year-old worker and the father of a 12-year-old daughter. This political prisoner was arrested by security forces in the city of Iran in June 2024 and was later transferred to Evin Prison. Based on baseless accusations, he was sentenced to execution in the Revolutionary Court on Monday, January 8, 2024.
Shahab Nadali, the political prisoner, and his lawyer have protested against the verdict and have submitted a request for a review to the Supreme Court of the country. However, up to this moment, there has been no response to their plea for a review.
According to the research conducted by Iran Human Rights Monitor (Iran HRM), the attribution of the charge of “rebellion” (Bagh-y) to Shahab Nadali lacks legal basis since Shahab has not used any form of armed weaponry. And similarly, Shahab Nadali has been engaged in individual activism.
While the charge of “rebellion” according to Article 287 of the Iran regime’s law refers to armed group uprising against the Iran government, it is evident that this accusation does not align with the laws of the Iran regime itself. Shahab Nadali should be acquitted of this charge and his appeal should be accepted.
