On Tuesday, April 2, 2024, for the tenth consecutive week, striking prisoners went on a hunger strike to protest the medieval practice of executing prisoners, support the families of those executed, and stand in solidarity with those facing death sentences.
§ It should be noted that this hunger strike has been going on since January 29, 2024, in protest against widespread executions, including executions of political-prisoners of conscience, which often began on Tuesdays and takes place every week.
§ Thousands of prisoners are currently on death row in Qezel-Hesar Prison and other prisons. Nearly 340 prisoners are on death row in Lakan prisons in Rasht and Zanjan alone. On the other hand, nearly 50 political prisoners are at risk of execution in Iranian prisons.
