Hunger Strike on Tuesdays Protesting Death Sentences in Iranian Prisons
The “No to Execution Tuesdays ” campaign and accompanying hunger strike continued for the 13th consecutive week on April 23, 2024. This collective action was intended to protest the surge in executions and repression while expressing solidarity with bereaved families. Over the past 10 days alone, more than 26 prisoners have been executed by the government.
Despite growing international condemnation of human rights abuses in Iran, the Islamic Republic has escalated its repression to suppress popular uprisings and protests.
The hunger strike, which began on Tuesday, January 29, 2024, in response to the execution of prisoners from Qezel-Hesar Prison, has continued without interruption every Tuesday. Prisoners from Evin, Qezel-Hesar, Markazi Karaj, Markazi Khorramabad, Naqadeh, Saqqez, Mashhad, and other prisons actively participate in this collective protest.
