On October 31, 2024, Vahid Benami was executed in Naqadeh Prison, Iran, while additional executions took place in Isfahan. Reports also reveal that the Teimouri brothers endured amputation sentences in Urmia Central Prison, marking an alarming escalation in punitive measures.
In the early hours of Thursday, October 31, 2024, an inmate named Vahid Benami was executed at Naqadeh Prison. Benami, a 49-year-old from Piranshahr, had been arrested eight years prior on drug-related charges and sentenced to death. The night before his execution, his family arrived at the prison for a final visit but were informed that his execution would not proceed. However, the next morning, they were notified to come to the prison to collect his body.
Additionally, reports indicate that three other executions took place in Isfahan Prison. On Wednesday morning, October 30, 2024, Reza Bidabadi (also known as Douqali) was executed in the central prison in Isfahan. He had been sentenced to death on murder charges.
Earlier in the week, on Monday morning, October 28, 2024, two prisoners, Amir Jahandar and Kourosh Salehian, were also executed in the same prison. Both men had been convicted of murder three years ago. Amir Jahandar, a resident of Kazeroon, was a father to a young child.
In a separate incident on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, two inmates in Urmia Central Prison, identified as brothers Mehrdad and Shahab Teimouri, faced inhumane amputation sentences. Their punishment was carried out under the supervision of judicial and prison officials from the West Azerbaijan Province. Following the amputation, the brothers were transferred to Khomeini Hospital in Urmia, where they remain barred from any contact or visitation with family members.
The inhumane amputation sentence for the Teimouri brothers was originally handed down in August 2019 by Branch One of the Urmia Criminal Court, which convicted them of theft and sentenced them to the amputation of their right-hand fingers. The sentence was upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court in April 2020, permitting its eventual implementation.
Reports further indicate that a guillotine device, intended for amputations, has been installed at Urmia Central Prison, increasing the risk of similar punishments for other detainees.
