At Least 11 Executions in a Single Day in Iran, Including One Woman

November 11, 2024
FacebookTwitterEmail

On November 10, 2024, Iranian authorities carried out the execution of at least 11 prisoners across various prisons, with one of the victims being a woman. These executions, reportedly related to both drug offenses and homicide, were carried out in several cities, including Yasuj, Tabriz, Zahedan, and Rasht.

Three Executions in Yasuj and Tabriz Prisons

According to sources, three prisoners, including a woman, were executed early on November 10, 2024:

Saman Karimi, a 25-year-old man from Bahmai County in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, was executed in Yasuj Central Prison. He had been detained two years ago on charges of premeditated murder and subsequently sentenced to death.

In Tabriz Central Prison, two individuals were put to death on the same morning. They were identified as Mahrokh Khani, a 35-year-old woman, and Kazem Babaei, approximately 45 years old. Both were reportedly convicted of drug-related offenses. According to an informed source, Mahrokh Khani had been imprisoned for four years on charges of drug trafficking; prior to her arrest, she had worked in a sewing workshop. Kazem Babaei had been in custody for two years and seven months before his execution.

Additional Executions Across Other Prisons

On the same day, four other inmates were executed in the prisons of Gorgan, Zahedan, and Rasht:

At dawn on November 10, 2024, Mohammad Nabi Papalzehi, a 28-year-old Afghan national residing in Zabol, was executed in Zahedan Central Prison. He had been convicted two years ago on drug-related charges.

Additionally, three other prisoners were executed in the prisons of Lakan in Rasht, Nishapur, and Ghezel Hesar in Karaj on the same day.

The spike in executions, particularly within a single day, raises significant human rights concerns. Iranian authorities continue to use the death penalty extensively, especially for drug offenses and homicide, despite repeated calls from international human rights organizations to abolish the practice.
