In recent days, several prisoners from Tabas Prison in South Khorasan Province and Khourin Prison in Varamin have joined the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign. As a result, prisoners across 27 prisons in Iran will go on a hunger strike on Tuesday, December 17.
To mark its 47th week, the campaign issued a statement highlighting that, since last Tuesday, 40 prisoners have been executed by the clerical regime in Iran.

The statement of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign in its 47th week is as follows:
With the Joining of Tabas and Khourin Varamin Prisons, the Campaign Expands to 27 Prisons in its 47th Week
As we have witnessed in recent months, the number of executions has surged to unprecedented levels, and the criminal regime exploits every opportunity to take human lives.
Following the collapse of the Assad family’s criminal regime in Syria, a drug production factory connected to Iran’s Velayat-e Faqih regime has been uncovered. This facility stored tens of tons of narcotics and distributed them to various parts of the world. Meanwhile, in Iran, we witness the daily execution of prisoners accused of possessing just a few grams of drugs. From last Tuesday until now, at least 40 people have been executed, with several hanged on drug-related charges.
The oppressed people of Sistan and Baluchestan, who suffer from widespread deprivation and double oppression, have been particularly targeted. This week alone, at least 10 of the executed were from this province.
Continuing this wave of suppression, in recent days, a prisoner named Mohammad Amin Mahdavi Shayesteh, who was sentenced to death on charges of espionage following a vague and unjust trial, has been transferred to Qezel-Hesar Prison. There is now a grave risk that his death sentence could be upheld and carried out.
In addition, a political prisoner named Saman Mohammadi Khiyareh, who has been unjustly incarcerated for the past 15 years and sentenced to death, has been transferred to solitary confinement in Qezel-Hesar Prison. There are serious concerns that his execution may be imminent.
In recent days, several prisoners from Tabas Prison in South Khorasan Province and Khourin Prison in Varamin have announced, through separate letters, their decision to join the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign. They declared that they will go on hunger strike every Tuesday in protest against the increasing number of executions. With their participation, the number of prisons involved in the campaign during its 47th week has reached 27.
The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, while issuing a serious warning regarding the lives of prisoners sentenced to death, reiterates that this initiative was formed to counter death sentences. Since the regime relies on executions to sustain itself, it is crucial to stand against this inhumane act by any possible means and amplify the voices of prisoners on death row and their families.
The campaign’s activists also call on all fellow citizens to resist the execution and repression machinery of this tyrannical regime through creative and proactive initiatives. By supporting prisoners sentenced to death, they can rest assured that the day of public awakening to dismantle the gallows in Iran is near.
The members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign will be on hunger strike on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, in its 47th week, across the following 27 prisons:
