On March 6, 2025, two political prisoners, Mohammad and Mehdi Khodakarami, were severely beaten and tortured in the quarantine section of Khorramabad Central Prison. Their sudden transfer from Parsilon Prison in Khorramabad took place without allowing them to take their personal belongings, and they were subjected to violent mistreatment by prison officials.
According to an informed source, several officials and prison guards attacked the two prisoners collectively, severely beating them before transferring them to solitary confinement.
Background of Arrest and Sentencing
Mohammad and Mehdi Khodakarami were arrested during the nationwide protests in Tehran and transferred to Evin Prison, where they endured severe torture and inhumane treatment during interrogations.
During his detention at Evin Prison, Mohammad Khodakarami suffered a broken nose, severe head injuries, and multiple fractures due to intense beatings by interrogators. The severity of the blows rendered him unconscious for three days. Eventually, the authorities were forced to transfer him to a hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit and underwent a CT scan.
However, prison officials denied him proper medical treatment and conditioned his care on his cooperation with the Ministry of Intelligence.
In protest against these brutal conditions, Mohammad Khodakarami went on a 32-day hunger strike, which led to a significant deterioration in his health and severe weight loss. Throughout this period, he was denied medical care, phone calls with his family, and access to a lawyer.
Similarly, Mehdi Khodakarami suffered fractures in his head, ear, ribs, and other parts of his body due to the brutal torture he endured during interrogations. His condition remained critical for an extended period. Like his brother, he was denied phone calls with his family and the right to legal representation.
Sentencing and Continued Persecution
In April 2023, both brothers were transferred to Khorramabad Prison, where they were subjected to physical and psychological torture. In August 2023, the Revolutionary Court of Khorramabad, presided over by Judge Mozaffar Gholami, sentenced Mohammad Khodakarami to 8 years in prison and Mehdi Khodakarami to 4 years on charges of “membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization” and “assembly and collusion against national security”.
In May 2024, following a prison-wide protest against water cuts and the closure of the prison store, the two prisoners were beaten and transferred to Parsilon Prison in Khorramabad.
In December 8, 2024, another online trial was held inside Parsilon Prison, where both prisoners were sentenced to an additional year in prison on charges of “propaganda against the regime.”
