On the last Tuesday of the Iranian year 1403 (March 18, 2025), prisoners participating in the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 38 prisons across the country will go on a hunger strike.
In a statement issued on this occasion, the Campaign highlights the grim reality that the ruling religious dictatorship in Iran has brutally executed 1,148 prisoners throughout the year 1403 (since March 21, 2024), setting yet another shameful record.
The statement further notes that the regime’s prisons are filled with inmates who may face execution in the coming year.

60th Week of the “No to Executions on Tuesdays” Campaign in 38 Prisons Nationwide on the Last Tuesday of 1403
Rejection of Judicial Review for Death Row Political Prisoner Hatem Özdemir
As the new year [Nowruz] approaches, the “No to ExecutionTuesdays” campaign extends its congratulations to the dear people of Iran and our compatriots around the world. With the arrival of the national celebration of Chaharshanbe Suri (Fire Feast), we hope that the resistance of the people against tyranny and executions in Iran will blaze as brightly as the festival’s fire, bringing an end to darkness, executions, killings, and violence.
The ruling religious dictatorship executed at least 116 individuals in Esfand (since February 19). Additionally, in a horrifying statistic, 1,148 prisoners were brutally executed over the course of the year 1403 (March 21, 2024 – March 20, 2025), marking another disgraceful record.
In yet another inhumane act, on March 13, 2025, a citizen named Haidar Mohammadi (Hasanvand) was tortured to death by security forces while in detention at the Nahavand police intelligence facility.
Furthering this wave of repression, the Supreme Court has rejected the judicial review request of political prisoner Hatem Özdemir, who is currently sentenced to death in Urmia Central Prison. This means that his execution could be carried out at any moment.
Despite immense pressure, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign has now endured through its second Nowruz with unwavering resistance against oppression and capital punishment. We hope to continue opposing executions with even greater strength and determination in the coming year 1404.
All the support received over the past year has been invaluable to us. We extend our gratitude to political parties, organizations, civil and labor unions, and human rights groups inside and outside Iran. We also deeply appreciate individuals from all walks of life—workers, teachers, nurses, retirees, writers, artists, grieving families, and students—who have directly or indirectly opposed executions and supported this campaign.
Currently, we are standing against executions in 38 different prisons, taking even the smallest steps to save thousands of death row prisoners. The regime’s prisons are overcrowded with individuals who may be executed in the coming year. From Qezel-Hesar to Sheiban, and from Tabriz Central Prison to Vakilabad, Adelabad, Zahedan, Sanandaj, and Urmia, traces of atrocities can be found—atrocities that will become reality if no serious action is taken.
For example, among the approximately 130 female prisoners in Lakan Prison, 14 have been sentenced to death, with execution orders already issued for two of them. Lakan Prison is just one of dozens of such facilities.
In light of this, we call upon all prisoners across the country and all those who seek freedom and justice to join and support this campaign.
On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, prisoners participating in the “No to Executions on Tuesdays” campaign will go on a hunger strike in the following 38 prisons:
Evin Prison (Women’s Ward, Wards 4 and 8), Qezel-Hesar Prison (Units 3 and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Greater Tehran Prison, Khorin Varamin Prison, Choubindar Qazvin Prison, Arak Prison, Khorramabad Prison, Asadabad Isfahan Prison, Dastgerd Isfahan Prison, Sheiban Ahvaz Prison, Sepidar Ahvaz Prison (Men’s and Women’s Wards), Shiraz Nezam Prison, Adelabad Shiraz Prison (Men’s and Women’s Wards), Borazjan Prison, Ramhormoz Prison, Bam Prison, Kahnuj Prison, Tabas Prison, Joveyn Prison, Mashhad Prison, Gonbad-e Kavus Prison, Qaemshahr Prison, Rasht Prison (Men’s and Women’s Wards), Roudsar Prison, Haviq Talesh Prison, Dieselabad Kermanshah Prison, Ardabil Prison, Tabriz Prison, Urmia Prison, Salmas Prison, Khoy Prison, Naqadeh Prison, Miandoab Prison, Saqqez Prison, Baneh Prison, Marivan Prison, and Kamyaran Prison.
