On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, the 65th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign is being held, with a group of inmates from Behbahan Prison joining the protest movement.
In this week’s statement, the prisoners, referring to the execution of Hamid Hosseinnezhad Heydaranlou and the issuance of a death sentence for Pejman Soltani, emphasized that “this scale of prisoner executions reflects the regime’s fear of social uprisings and serves as a serious warning to human rights organizations.”

Behbahan Prison Joins the 65th Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign
The Brutal Execution of Political Prisoner Hamid Hosseinnezhad Heydaranlou and the Death Sentence for Political Prisoner Pejman Soltani
Whenever it finds itself at an impasse, the execution-driven and authoritarian Iranian regime escalates its repression of the people. The primary targets of this crackdown are often helpless, defenseless prisoners, whose lives are taken through inhumane death sentences.
The brutal execution of Hamid Hosseinnezhad Heydaranlou, a 40-year-old political prisoner and father of three, who was arrested in April 2023 and severely tortured, is one such inhumane act by the regime against the people of Iran. Under intense torture, he was forced to confess against himself and to sign documents pre-prepared by interrogators.

Since the beginning of this year (March 20, 2024), at least 88 individuals—including 5 women, 7 political prisoners, and 2 juvenile offenders—have been executed. This figure represents a several-fold increase compared to the previous year and can be viewed as a reflection of the explosive state of Iranian society.
In recent days, Pejman Soltani, a political prisoner from Bukan who was arrested during the 2022 protests, has also been sentenced to death.
The extent of prisoner executions and the implementation of death sentences in Iran clearly indicate the regime’s deep fear of social uprisings and protests. This is a serious warning to the international community and human rights organizations not to remain silent in the face of the crimes committed by the Iranian regime, and to take effective and practical action to confront these inhumane executions.
The “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign informs that starting this week, a group of prisoners in Behbahan Prison has joined the campaign in protest against death sentences. They will go on hunger strike every Tuesday, in solidarity with other participating inmates.
