67th Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 41 Prisons Across Iran

May 6, 2025
FacebookTwitterEmail

On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, the 67th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign will be held in 41 prisons throughout the country.

This week, coinciding with the execution of at least 29 prisoners and the killing of a protesting citizen, the Campaign has issued a warning about the regime’s use of executions as “the primary tool of repression” and has called for concrete responses from human rights organizations.

A section of the Campaign’s statement reads: “In the hands of this tyranny, the weapon of execution is more dangerous than any other.”

The full statement from the striking prisoners during the 67th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign is as follows:

In the past week, the regime of execution and repression hanged 29 prisoners

On April 30, 2025, 15 prisoners were executed, and on May 4, 2025, another 9 were hanged. This brings the total number of executions since the beginning of the year to 154.

In a brutal act, the tyrannical rulers shot and killed a citizen named Azim Farrokhvand, who had joined a group of people in Dezful protesting the execution of two prisoners. According to the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign, he is the first martyr of the “No to Execution” movement since the Campaign’s inception. We honor his memory and emphasize that as long as this regime remains in power, it will not relent in its use of executions at any cost.

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign warns that in the current climate—where the Iranian regime is facing both domestic and international deadlock—it is using executions as its primary means of repression, aiming to prevent the emergence of protest movements and uprisings by a desperate population. Therefore, international human rights organizations must compel their respective governments to make continued relations with the Iranian regime conditional upon the abolition of the death penalty. For, in the hands of this tyranny, the weapon of execution is more dangerous than any other.

At the same time, we continue to urge all segments of society to stand united and raise their voices in every possible way against executions.

On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign will mark its 67th week with a hunger strike in the following 41 prisons:

Evin Prison (women’s ward, wards 4 and 8), Qezel-Hesar Prison (units 3 and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Greater Tehran Prison, Khorin Varamin Prison, Choobindar Qazvin Prison, Arak Prison, Khorramabad Prison, Asadabad Isfahan Prison, Dastgerd Isfahan Prison, Sheiban Ahvaz Prison, Sepidar Ahvaz Prison (women’s and men’s wards), Shiraz Nezam Prison, Adelabad Shiraz Prison (women’s and men’s wards), Zahedan Prison (women’s ward), Borazjan Prison, Ramhormoz Prison, Behbahan Prison, Bam Prison, Kahnouj Prison, Tabas Prison, Mashhad Prison, Gonbad-e Kavus Prison, Qaemshahr Prison, Rasht Prison (men’s and women’s wards), Rudsar Prison, Haviq Talesh Prison, Azbarm Lahijan Prison, Dieselabad Kermanshah Prison, Ardabil Prison, Tabriz Prison, Urmia Prison, Salmas Prison, Khoy Prison, Naqadeh Prison, Miandoab Prison, Saqqez Prison, Baneh Prison, Marivan Prison, Sanandaj Prison, and Kamyaran Prison.
