The 71st Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 46 Prisons Across the Country

June 3, 2025
FacebookTwitterEmail

On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign entered its 71st week, with prisoners at Firouzabad Prison in Fars Province joining the protest for the first time.

This week’s statement highlights the alarming rise in executions, noting: “Since the beginning of Khordad (May 22), at least 67 prisoners, including 3 women, have been executed—an average of seven people per day.”

The campaign also emphasizes the media silence surrounding these executions and urges the families of death row inmates to publicize their loved ones’ cases to halt the machinery of execution, warning them not to be deceived by threats or manipulations by intelligence agents.

“The call of “No to Execution” must echo in every city and street, as this regime continues to bring mourning to families across the country daily. Our power lies in our unity and solidarity.”

The full statement of the 71st week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign reads as follows:

With Firouzabad Prison in Fars Province joining the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign in its 71st week, the campaign has now spread to 46 prisons.

A Call to Families of Death Row Inmates to Break the Silence

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign expresses its solidarity with the hardworking truck drivers who have completed the twelfth day of their strike, salutes their perseverance, and calls on all other oppressed groups in society to join the drivers’ strike and support them in every possible way.

In a situation where every day brings harrowing events and tragedies across the country, the regime of execution and slaughter continues to carry out mass executions in its dungeons under a complete news blackout. By mocking international laws and exploiting religion to justify state crimes, which they have enabled, the regime seeks to suppress the people’s demands for justice and popular uprisings. However, history has shown that the fall of such dictatorial regimes is inevitable.

Since the beginning of Khordad (May 22), at least 67 prisoners, including 3 women, have been executed—an average of seven people per day. On a single day, May 28, 2025, twenty prisoners were executed with extreme cruelty.

Let us not forget that this widespread use of the inhumane punishment of execution has been accompanied by grave violations of the right to a fair trial. In this context, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Pedram Madani was hanged in Qezel-Hesar Prison on charges of espionage, under a complete media blackout. Additionally, the request for retrial submitted by Mohammad Amin Mahdavi-Shayesteh—previously sentenced to death on espionage charges by Judge Salavati, known as the “Judge of Death”-has been rejected by the Supreme Court, placing this imprisoned citizen in imminent danger of execution.

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign urges the families of those sentenced to death to swiftly publicize their loved ones’ cases and inform the Iranian public and human rights organizations. Through such transparency and awareness, we can bring the machinery of execution to a halt. Families must not fall for the deceptions or threats of intelligence officers and interrogators, who aim to carry out executions in silence and, through state-sanctioned killings, trample on the fundamental right to life.

With gratitude and respect to the families of prisoners who have, for weeks, raised the cry of “No to Execution” across various parts of the country and supported this campaign, we once again call on the public—especially the families of those sentenced to death—to support the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign in every possible way and not to leave protesting, justice-seeking families alone.

The call of “No to Execution” must echo in every city and street, as this regime continues to bring mourning to families across the country daily. Our power lies in our unity and solidarity.

According to information received by the campaign, a group of prisoners at Firouzabad Prison in Fars Province have joined the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign as of Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the 71st week of the campaign, and will be going on a hunger strike every Tuesday.
