75th Week of the No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign Across 47 Prisons in Iran

July 1, 2025
FacebookTwitterEmail

On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, the seventy-fifth week of the No to Execution Tuesdays campaign is being observed amid a troubling surge in executions, arbitrary arrests, and political repression across Iran.

In this week’s statement, the participating prisoners pointed to the execution of at least 17 individuals in just the first four days of the Iranian month of Tir (22-25 June) and a total of 424 executions since the beginning of the Iranian year. They declared: “To preserve its own survival, [the regime] sacrifices the citizens’ right to life.”

This week’s campaign continues across 47 prisons throughout the country—including Qarchak Prison, which has recently replaced Evin Prison—through a hunger strike.

Concern Over the Increase in Repression and the Expansion of Executions

The corrupt and repressive regime continues its arbitrary executions and systematic oppression in an effort to suppress public uprisings and protests. In just the first four days of the Iranian month of Tir, at least 17 prisoners, including one woman, were executed. Since the start of 2025, at least 424 people have been hanged. Eighteen executions took place in the past week alone—an alarming statistic that is unprecedented in recent years.

The recent passage of a bill by the regime’s puppet parliament, aimed at intensifying repression and escalating executions—particularly against dissidents and political prisoners—alongside the rising number of death sentences being carried out, reflects the existence of an explosive society governed by an oppressive and illegitimate system that sacrifices the right to life to preserve its survival.

On Wednesday of last week, the Velayat-e Faqih regime executed three Kurdish kolbars—Azad Shojaei, Edris Ali, and Rasoul Ahmad Mohammad—on espionage charges through a non-transparent and unjust process.

In recent weeks, there has also been a broad wave of arrests in various cities across the country under vague political and security-related pretexts, raising serious concerns about the fate of those detained. There are fears that many may face severe charges and be denied the right to a fair trial.

Under such circumstances, the lives of political prisoners sentenced to death are in greater danger than ever. We, the members of this campaign, stand with the people of Iran in demanding the abolition of the death penalty and the unconditional release of all political and ideological prisoners.

The No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign calls upon the international community, human rights organizations, and all conscientious individuals to raise their voices for prisoners sentenced to death and remember that this authoritarian regime did not ensure prisoners’ safety even during war and bombardment. Now, after the crisis has ended, it is seeking vengeance against the people and the prisoners.

We also call on the families of prisoners—especially those whose loved ones have recently been arrested—not to remain silent: publicize their names and demand their unconditional release.

It should be noted that, with the closure of Evin Prison and the transfer of prisoners to Greater Tehran Prison and Qarchak Prison, Qarchak has now officially replaced Evin on the campaign’s list of participating hunger strike prisons.
