The 119th Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 56 Prisons Across Iran

May 5, 2026
FacebookTwitterEmail

Political prisoners in 56 prisons across the country continued their hunger strike within the framework of this campaign, in protest against the mounting wave of executions and the issuance of death sentences for recent protesters and detainees. This resistance takes place under circumstances where the judiciary has intensified the implementation of death sentences and has deprived protesting female prisoners in Evin Prison of their right to visitation and phone calls due to their solidarity with this campaign. Emphasizing their resistance against these medieval verdicts, members of the campaign called on the international community and human rights organizations to take immediate action to halt the execution machine and save the lives of the prisoners.

Continuation of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in its 119th Week in 56 Different Prisons

Over the past week, the ruling dictatorship in Iran brutally executed Sasan Azadvar, a 21-year-old political prisoner and karate champion, along with three other prisoners of the January 2026 uprising in Mashhad named Mehdi Rasouli, Mohammadreza Miri, and Ebrahim Dolatabadi, as well as Mehrab Abdollahzadeh, a prisoner of the 2022 uprising in Urmia. Furthermore, it hanged two Kurdish prisoners named Nasser Bekrzadeh and Yaghoub Karimpour under the pretext of espionage. The execution of prisoners is not limited to political prisoners, and over the past week, the execution of prisoners with other charges has also increased.

Many prisoners and detainees from the recent protests remain at risk of execution. This is particularly true for prisoners such as Erfan Amiri, Matin Mohammadi, Ehsan Hosseini Pour Hesarlou, Maryam Hadavandmiri, Mohammad Abbasi, Saeed Zarei Kordshouli, Hamidreza Fathi, Abdolreza Fathi, Hamidreza Sabet-Ray, and Mohammadreza Tabari, who have recently been sentenced to death. In another measure, the Velayat-e Faqih judiciary has rejected the request for a retrial for Peyman Farrahavar, a political prisoner incarcerated in Lakan Prison in Rasht, and this prisoner’s life is in grave danger.

Ejei, the head of the judiciary [which is under the dominance of VAJA (Ministry of Intelligence), SAS (IRGC Intelligence Organization), and the Country’s Intelligence Coordination Council], attacked the opponents of the death penalty last week, threatening the youth and opponents of the regime with more executions, and in doing so, he intensified the suppression of protesting citizens and the practical execution of prisoners.

In the continuation of resistance against the “medieval” death sentences, a number of activists from the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign in the women’s ward of Evin Prison, who chanted “No to Execution” and “Death to the Dictator” in the ward’s courtyard last Tuesday, have been deprived of their visitation and phone call rights.

It is unequivocally clear to everyone that the policy of suppression, imprisonment, and execution cannot impede the people’s uprising and revolt against the regime. For a regime that has lost its legitimacy among the people, suppression and execution will not cure its ailments.

We, the members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, call upon all awakened consciences and opponents of executions, human rights organizations, and the international community to take immediate and effective action to save the lives of political and non-political prisoners in Iran.

In its 119th week, on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign is on hunger strike in the following 56 prisons:

Evin Prison (Women’s and Men’s Wards), Qezel Hesar Prison (Units 2, 3, and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Karaj Fardis Prison, Greater Tehran Prison, Qarchak Prison, Khorin Prison in Varamin, Choubindar Prison in Qazvin, Ahar Prison, Arak Prison, Langaroud Prison in Qom, Khorramabad Prison, Boroujerd Prison, Yasuj Prison, Asadabad Prison in Isfahan, Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan, Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz, Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz (Women’s and Men’s Wards), Nezam Prison in Shiraz, Adelabad Prison in Shiraz (Women’s and Men’s Wards), Firouzabad Prison in Fars, Dehdasht Prison, Zahedan Prison (Women’s and Men’s Wards), Borazjan Prison, Ramhormoz Prison, Behbahan Prison, Bam Prison, Yazd Prison (Women’s and Men’s Wards), Kahnouj Prison, Tabas Prison, Birjand Central Prison, Mashhad Prison, Gorgan Prison, Sabzevar Prison, Gonbad Kavous Prison, Qaemshahr Prison, Rasht Prison (Men’s and Women’s Wards), Roudsar Prison, Haviq Prison in Talesh, Azbaram Prison in Lahijan, Dizelabad Prison in Kermanshah, Ardabil Prison, Tabriz Prison, Urmia Prison, Salmas Prison, Khoy Prison, Naqadeh Prison, Miandoab Prison, Mahabad Prison, Bukan Prison, Saqqez Prison, Baneh Prison, Marivan Prison, Sanandaj Prison, Kamyaran Prison, and Ilam Prison.
