The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign has expanded significantly to 64 prisons across the country in the 139th week of its protests, with the addition of Bandar Abbas and Someh Sara Ziabar prisons. Political and ideological prisoners have gone on hunger strike as reports indicate the continued issuance and implementation of inhumane death sentences in Iran, including the execution of a mother of six in Isfahan. This collective action in prisons has become a symbol of resistance against repressive policies and a demand for the right to life at a time when the number of executions has increased sharply this year.

The addition of Bandar Abbas and Someh Sara Ziabar prisons to the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign and the expansion of this campaign to 64 different prisons in its 139th week
No to Execution Tuesdays; the voice of prisons against execution and repression
The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign has entered a broader phase as human rights reports indicate the continuation of executions and the issuance of inhumane death sentences in Iran. In the past week, we witnessed the confirmation of the death sentences of Mohammadreza Majidi Asl in Tehran and Omid Goodarzvand Chegini in Chubindar Prison of Qazvin; both are detainees of the January uprising of 2026 who are in immediate danger of execution. In this regard, a death sentence has also been issued for Omidreza Heidari, a 19-year-old student from Izeh.
According to reports received, Rezvan Asgharzadeh, a 45-year-old woman and mother of six, was brutally hanged in Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan on drug-related charges. The execution of a mother has once again brought the human and social consequences of the death penalty and the misogyny of this anti-human regime to the center of attention.
Despite all these repressions, resistance in prisons continues; with the addition of Bandar Abbas Prison and Someh Sara Ziabar Prison in Gilan Province, the number of prisons participating in this campaign has reached 64. These hunger strikes and prisoners’ protests are continuing at a time when, according to published statistics, the number of recorded executions since the beginning of the Iranian year 1405 (March 21, 2026) has reached at least 448.
These horrific statistics have not remained hidden from international observers; in its recent report on the crackdown on the 2022 protests, Amnesty International named 87 Iranian officials for investigation and criminal inquiry regarding their possible roles in crimes related to the suppression of these protests. At the same time, the European Parliament has expressed concern in its positions regarding the crackdown, the execution of protesters, and the situation of prisoners in Iran, emphasizing the necessity of respecting fundamental rights and the right to life.
We oppose policies that compromise with the killers of the Iranian people, criminals, and political prisoners. We call for effective mechanisms to investigate and hold accountable those responsible for serious human rights violations in Iran. These individuals and other perpetrators and commanders of the killing and massacre of prisoners and protesters must be punished.
In such circumstances, “No to Execution Tuesdays” has become a symbol of prisoners’ protest against the death penalty; a protest that began from within the prisons and reminds public opinion of the “right to life” and the necessity of a fair trial.
