The head of the Khuzestan Health Center said that they had witnessed 34 cases of Hepatitis A in the towns of Masjed Soleiman and Izeh.
“From the beginning of the year (Persian year which started on March 21) there were 17 cases of Hepatitis A in the Shahrake Naft region in Masjed Soleiman and 17 cases in the town of Izeh.
He pointed to the outbreak of this disease adding that the Hepatitis A virus was transferred via contaminated food and water.
“When we witness such an outbreak in a municipal region, it’s definitely due to water contamination”, Shokrollah Salmanzadeh added.
“The reason behind the (high) numbers of this disease in Masjed Soleiman was because of contamination in the water networks”, he said.
“The 17 cases of Hepatitis A in Izeh was the result of low water quality”, the head of the Khuzestan Health Center added.
“The Hepatitis A virus is inseparable from water and last year we did not have any such cases in Masjed Soleiman,” he said.
