83rd Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 50 Prisons Across Iran

August 26, 2025
FacebookTwitterEmail

On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, prisoners in 50 prisons across the country once again joined the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign through a hunger strike. This week, the name of Dehdasht Prison was added to this protest movement—a bitter reminder of the reality that no corner of Iran is safe from the shadow of execution.

In this week’s statement, referring to the unprecedented wave of executions, it was declared:
“Execution is not a solution; execution is a blatant violation of the right to life; execution is a tool for instilling fear and cementing political repression.”

The full statement of the 83rd week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign is as follows:

Expansion of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in the 83rd Week to 50 Different Prisons

Dehdasht Prison Joins the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign

In Iran, under the rule of the Supreme Leader, the execution machine continues to mercilessly claim victims. In the month of Mordad alone (July–August), 166 people were hanged; and in the past week, 31 of our fellow citizens, including one woman, were executed. Two of the victims, in Kordkuy and Beyram Larestan, were hanged in public. The executioner government seeks to terrorize society through humiliation and the normalization of violence.

According to reports, a group of prisoners in Dehdasht Prison joined the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign in its 83rd week. The addition of Dehdasht Prison to this campaign’s list is a bitter reminder that no part of Iran is spared from the shadow of execution.

At the same time, we face another shocking and infuriating piece of news: the conversion of Section 41 of Behesht Zahra Cemetery (a section that recalls thousands of political prisoners of the 1980s and the unforgettable crimes of those years) into a parking lot. This act is not only a disgraceful attempt to erase collective memory and the evidence of state crimes, but also a blatant insult to the victims and their families—an act condemned by Amnesty International as well.

Once again, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign cries out:
Execution is not a solution;
Execution is a blatant violation of the right to life;
Execution is a tool for instilling fear and cementing political repression.

This campaign calls on all international institutions, human rights activists, and every awakened conscience to stand against this cycle of death and to reflect the protest of the Iranian people against executions.

In the 83rd week, on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, hunger strikes are held in the following 50 prisons as part of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign:
