88th Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 52 Prisons Across Iran

September 30, 2025
FacebookTwitterEmail

On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, prisoners in 52 prisons across the country once again went on hunger strike as part of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign. This week’s statement was issued in remembrance and mourning for Somayeh Rashidi, a political prisoner who lost her life due to the denial of medical care. The statement emphasized: “The execution of 46 people in the past week and 190 executions in the month of Shahrivar — unprecedented in the past 35 years — present a terrifying picture of the ruthless violation of human rights.”

The full statement of the 88th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign reads as follows:

The 88th Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 52 Different Prisons

This week, once again, we stand with deep sorrow and endless solidarity in remembrance of Somayeh Rashidi, a political prisoner who died due to the denial of medical care. Her unjust death is part of the policy of “slow execution” of prisoners and a bitter warning about the conditions of sick inmates in the country’s prisons – prisoners who have been deprived of the most basic human rights. Members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign express their sincere condolences to her family and loved ones.

At the same time, the execution of Bahman Choubi Asl on espionage charges under an ambiguous judicial process on September 29, 2025, the issuance of death sentences for two political prisoners, Hamed Validi and Nima Shahi, in the Revolutionary Court of Karaj, and the confirmation of the death sentence for Peyman Farahavar by the Supreme Court, all reflect the ongoing alarming pattern of repression and violence against the people of Iran and its prisoners. These unjust rulings constitute blatant violations of human rights and are tools of oppression that must be stopped immediately.

In this context, the position taken by Ms. Mai Sato, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights, regarding the widespread violations of prisoners’ rights in Iran, once again drew global attention to the appalling conditions in the country’s prisons. The execution of 46 people in the past week, 190 executions in the month of Shahrivar — unprecedented in the past 35 years — and 871 executions in the first six months of 1404 (i.e. since March 21, 2025), paint a horrific picture of the merciless violation of human rights.

The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, while condemning these crimes, once again calls for the immediate halt of executions and an end to this inhumane process. Our voice is the cry of solidarity with all prisoners trapped in oppression and injustice. As always, we express our gratitude to all supporters of the campaign worldwide and emphasize that the machinery of execution can be stopped through unity and solidarity. Every act of protest against a death sentence is a step toward halting this cruel process. We call on all opponents of the death penalty to raise their voices against these inhuman rulings.
