The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign continued in its 143rd week with a widespread hunger strike by prisoners in 66 prisons across the country as a symbol of resistance against the death penalty and defense of the right to life.
This protest action takes place under conditions where the wave of execution sentences in Iran has intensified and at least 72 individuals have been hanged since 23 September 2026. Despite increasing suppression, the joining of the UN Special Rapporteur and civil society organizations to this campaign indicates the expansion of domestic and international solidarity with prisoners sentenced to death.

Continuation of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in the 143rd Week in 66 Different Prisons
In the 143rd week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, we continue the struggle against the death penalty; while suppression, arrests, and the daily execution of death sentences in Iran continue to threaten human lives.
The ruling despotic government has hanged at least 72 individuals since 23 September 2026 until now, and many prisoners, particularly those detained during the January uprising of 2026, remain at risk of the issuance and implementation of death sentences.
In this regard, Amnesty International warned that 20 protesters of the January uprising of 2026 are at imminent risk of execution, and at least 34 people have previously been executed.
In the past week, the death sentence of Varisha Moradi, a political prisoner, which had previously been overturned by the Supreme Court, was reaffirmed.
Extensive support in recent days for the campaign and opposition to the death penalty on the occasion of the World Day Against the Death Penalty showed that the voice of protest against this anti-human punishment continues to grow louder and solidarity with prisoners sentenced to death is expanding.
Mr. Leopoldo Maldonado, the UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of expression, also joined the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign this week in protest against the executions in Iran. A few days ago, the “Mothers of Reconciliation of Kurdistan” had also joined this campaign.
The resistance and hunger strike of prisoners in 66 prisons across the country within the framework of this campaign is a symbol of standing against execution and an effort to defend the “right to life”; a voice that is not silenced even behind prison walls.
We invite all human rights defenders, organizations, and awakened consciences in different countries of the world to be the voice of prisoners sentenced to death by joining the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign and to stand united and integrated alongside one another to end the death penalty.
