The 135th Week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign in 61 Prisons Across Iran

August 25, 2026
FacebookTwitterEmail

Coinciding with the start of the 135th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, resisting prisoners in 61 different prisons across the country, including the newly joined “Noor” Prison in Gilan Province, have once again gone on a protest hunger strike. This coordinated action has taken place in response to the escalation of the wave of executions, particularly the recent execution of protesters and the issuance or upholding of new death sentences for political prisoners and prisoners of conscience. While protesting unfair trials and the deprivation of fundamental rights, the strikers have called for the solidarity of society, teachers, and social institutions to stand against the government’s killing machine and defend the right to life.

Please find the full text of the statement of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign below:

Noor Prison joins the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign in its 135th week and the expansion of this campaign to 61 different prisons

These days, the economic conditions of the people are deteriorating day by day due to the inefficiency, anti-popular policies, and crisis-ridden nature of the government. On the other hand, instead of resolving the crisis, the government does nothing but suppress society. To prevent protests, they do not stop executions-especially the execution of protesting youth and political prisoners-and every day we witness the execution of one of these loved ones.

In the past week, two political prisoners of the January uprising, Ghaem Hosseini in Isfahan Prison and Majid Adineh in the Central Prison of Karaj, were hanged. At the same time, death sentences have been issued or upheld for several other political prisoners; including the upholding of the death sentence for Arghavan Fallahi in Evin Women’s Prison, Rasoul Rezaei in Vakilabad Prison of Mashhad, and Mohammad Reza Majidi-Asl, who was transferred from the Greater Tehran Prison to Ghezel Hesar.

This sudden transfer to Ghezel Hesar, which is the center of executions in Tehran Province and one of the regime’s killing fields, has severely increased his family’s concern. The judicial process for these loved ones-whose imminent execution is feared-has been, like that of many other prisoners, highly unfair and non-transparent.

Also, since March 21, 2026, until now, 378 people have been executed, and since the Pezeshkian administration took office, this figure has surpassed 4,000 individuals. In the past week, the ruling authoritarian regime has made changes to the judiciary under the command of the “Velayat-e Faqih” (Absolute Clerical Rule). These changes have been carried out upon the proposal and direct interference of security agencies and pose a serious threat to prisoners and death-row convicts, because there is no independent institution to review and process their cases, and these individuals are even deprived of the right to choose their own lawyer.

On the other hand, however, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign and the resisting prisoners continue their resistance and steadfastness. This week, a group of prisoners in Noor Prison in Gilan Province also joined the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign. These prisoners have linked their only hope to their own collective power, the people, and the awakened consciences who stand and fight without stopping against the killing machine.

We sincerely thank the retirees and everyone who, in rallies and on streets and alleys, make the voice of “No to Execution” heard by all. The teachers’ “No to Execution” call must also be supported by workers and other social forces. We appreciate the teachers who have been pioneers and vanguards in representing and continuing this path. In every classroom, children must be taught that authenticity always belongs to the right to life and living, not death and execution.

The members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign are on hunger strike on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, in its 135th week, in the following 61 prisons:

Evin Prison (women’s and men’s wards), Qezel Hesar Prison (units 2, 3, and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Fardis Prison in Karaj, Greater Tehran Prison, Qarchak Prison, Khorin Prison in Varamin, Choobinder Prison in Qazvin, Ahar Prison, Arak Prison, Langaroud Prison in Qom, Khorramabad Prison, Borujerd Prison, Yasuj Prison, Asadabad Prison in Isfahan, Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan, Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz, Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz (women’s and men’s wards), Nezam Prison in Shiraz, Adelabad Prison in Shiraz (women’s and men’s wards), Firouzabad Prison in Fars, Dehdasht Prison, Zahedan Prison (women’s and men’s wards), Borazjan Prison, Ramhormoz Prison, Behbahan Prison, Bam Prison, Yazd Prison (women’s and men’s wards), Kahnuj Prison, Tabas Prison, Birjand Central Prison, Mashhad Prison, Gorgan Prison, Sabzevar Prison, Gonbad-e Kavus Prison, Qaemshahr Prison, Rasht Prison (men’s and women’s wards), Rudsar Prison, Haviq Prison in Talesh, Azbaram Prison in Lahijan, Diesel Abad Prison in Kermanshah, Ardabil Prison, Tabriz Prison, Urmia Prison, Salmas Prison, Khoy Prison, Naqadeh Prison, Miandoab Prison, Mahabad Prison, Bukan Prison, Saqqez Prison, Baneh Prison, Marivan Prison, Sanandaj Prison, Kamyaran Prison, Ilam Prison, Kerman Prison, Borujen Prison, Neyshabur Prison, Gachsaran Prison, and Noor Prison.
