In response to the continuation of the horrifying wave of executions and the issuance of death sentences for political prisoners, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign has entered its 144th week, with its members in 66 prisons across the country engaging in a hunger strike.
This protest action comes as at least 87 people have been executed in the last 20 days alone, and new death sentences have been issued or upheld for political prisoners, including Manouchehr Fallah, Ilia Ben Rashid, and Reza Zanganeh. Referring to the position taken by the UN Special Rapporteur, participants in this campaign have called upon public opinion, human rights activists, and the international community to break their silence and expand solidarity to prevent the continuation of this inhumane and repressive punishment.

Continuation of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign in its 144th week in 66 different prisons.
Once again, the ominous shadow of execution hangs over people whose lives, freedom, and human dignity are caught in the grip of repression. The upholding of the death sentence for political prisoner Manouchehr Fallah in Lakan Prison of Rasht, the issuance of a death sentence for the Arab protestor compatriot Ilia Ben Rashid in Isfahan, the issuance of a death sentence for political prisoner Reza Zanganeh in the Central Prison of Karaj, and another prisoner on security charges named Hassan Golshan-Nejad in Mashhad Prison, as well as the continued wave of executions in Iran and the presence of hundreds and thousands of prisoners on death row, is an alarm that cannot be ignored.
Execution in Iran is not merely the ending of a person’s life; it is a deep wound on the body of society, a tool for eternally grieving families, and a means to spread fear and silence the voice of the people’s protest. But history has shown that no gallows can extract the desire for freedom and equality from the hearts of humans, and no repression is capable of silencing the voice of justice-seeking forever.
The horrific statistics of executions by the tyrannical regime ruling our country in the Iranian month of Mehr (September 23- October 22) reveal the naked face of this repression: according to the provided statistics, at least 87 people have been executed in the last 20 days alone, among whom are 7 political prisoners and 2 women.
In such circumstances, the position taken by Ms. Mai Sato, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, against the executions and the expansion of the repression of the people, once again highlights the importance of the international community’s attention and reaction to human rights violations in Iran. Defending the right to life, freedom of expression, and the right to protest is a human responsibility that should not be stopped at political borders.
Today, all prisoners sentenced to death need our voices. We must not let their names be lost in silence and indifference. Every step toward the abolition of the death penalty is a step toward a freer and more humane society.
We call upon all freedom-loving people, justice-seeking families, human rights activists, political and trade union activists, and awakened consciences not to remain silent in the face of the wave of executions; be the voice of prisoners sentenced to death, condemn these sentences, and expand your solidarity to stop the executions and abolish this inhumane punishment.
Our success in stopping the machine of execution, slaughter, and repression depends solely on our solidarity. Let us unite for this important goal.
