Political prisoner Mostafa Salimi has staged a hunger strike since Wednesday, May 31.
He is protesting the authorities’ refusal to accept his demand for retrial and reconsideration of his transfer from Saqez to Sanandaj.
This is not the first time he is going on hunger strike to protest unfair charges levelled against him.
Salimi was sentenced to death in April 2014, for “enmity against God” and “contacting and cooperating with Kurdish parties.” He has denied and objected to these charges. But the court has refused to accept his plea for reexamination of his case.
Salimi has been imprisoned for 15 years, but last year, he was transferred from Saqez to Sanandaj, far away from his home. As a consequence, his family cannot travel the long distance to visit him.
Mostafa Salimi suffers from infection of both kidneys, backache and vision problems. Prison authorities have denied him access to medical treatment.
He became member of a Kurdish party in 2001. Not long after he stopped his cooperation with the party in 2003, he was arrested and taken to the Intelligence Department of Sanandaj.
