Political prisoner Ramin Hossein Panahi remains banned from any visits. On February 18, authorities even prevented his mother from seeing him. His lawyer says the banning imposed on this death row inmate is illegal and considered torture for a political prisoner.
“The court announced that he was banned from visits after the end of the court session without stating the reason. This is a violation of my client’s rights and an example of torture against my client,” Hossein Ahmadi Niaz said. “Unfortunately, the process of hearing a case in the Supreme Court is confidential and after I referred to the Court, I was not allowed access to the case due to the confidentially of the dossier,” he added.
Ramin Hossein Panahi, a 22-year-old member of the Komala opposition group, was arrested on 23 June 2017 after he took part in clashes with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards in the neighborhood of Shalman, in Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province, northwest Iran. He was shot and sustained three bullet wounds while arrested.
Ramin Hossein Panahi was charged with spreading propaganda against the regime and cooperating with anti-regime Kurd groups and has recently been sentenced to death.
