While young Iranian nurses are dying due to shortages of face masks and essential medical equipment, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council official says Iran is prepared to help Iraq in fighting the Covid-19.

In his talks on Sunday, March 8, with the Iraqi National Security Advisor Faleh Fayyaz, Ali Shamkhani noting the outbreak of the Coronavirus in Iran and Iraq, said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran is prepared to help Iraq in fighting this disease.”

The Iranian regime’s offer of assistance to other countries comes as the Iranian people including physicians and nurses, are at risk of contracting the virus due to shortages of medical and hygienic equipment. They have to use basic material to cover their heads, faces and bodies.

After hearing the remarks made by Shamkhani, a Majlis deputy from Rasht, tweeted, “Mr. Shamkhani, you are the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran. You should help Iran! The situation of Corona outbreak in Gilan Province is beyond red. There are no more beds for hospitalizing the patients. We don’t have fresh medical staff, special masks, protective garbs and medicine.”

At the same time, Mohammad Mirzabeigi, general director of the Nursing Organization, told the official IRNA news agency on March 9, that shortages of protective equipment for nurses, including masks and gloves, in northern provinces are cause of concern.

Mirzabeigi said, “Shortages of protective equipment to fight the Coronavirus, including masks, gloves, gowns and protective shields, continue to persist in some medical centers. Nurses and the medical staff in these centers have lots of difficulties in providing care and treatment for patients.”

Mehrdad Lahouti, Majlis deputy, noting the dangerous conditions in Gilan Province, said, “Many patients have lost their lives due to shortages of beds in hospitals and because they could not be hospitalized.”

Lahouti stressed on shortages of the equipment needed by the medical staff and physicians in hospitals of Gilan Province by saying, “Physicians and the medical staff are exposed to the danger of contraction of the disease more than others. If they are not equipped with the essential items such as the special gown, masks, and gloves, they would contract the disease.”

The Covid-19 virus is spreading rapidly in cities all across Iran. The death toll was estimated at 2600 by Monday evening, March 9. Despite the deaths of large numbers of Iranians, the Iranian regime officials is still refusing to give the true numbers of the Coronavirus cases.
