Ahmed Shaheed’s 2012 report, the first submitted to the Human Rights Council in line with resolution 16/9, reviews human rights developments in Iran since the start of his mandate in August 2011. Building on an interim report to the General Assembly in October 2011, this report introduces the Special Rapporteur’s methodology and highlights concerning trends in Iran’s human rights situation. It particularly addresses issues arising from the post-2009 election unrest, while acknowledging that it does not encompass all human rights violations. Future reports are expected to cover additional significant issues not included in this document.
