Political prisoner describes prison conditions under torture

Nourahmad Hassanzehi, a political prisoner from Iran’s Baluchi minority, is serving his 28 years behind bars in Ardebil Prison, northwest Iran, and far from home.

While being arrested his family, including his wife, 6-year-old disabled child and 12-year-old boy were threatened to be interrogated in an Intelligence Ministry detention center.

Hassanzehi’s wife suffers from mental health problems due to pressures and threats against their family, continuing after 6 years. His disabled child’s conditions have worsened and his older boy was forced to quit school due to the family’s severe depression.

He explained the physical and mental tortures imposed on him.

“They tied me to a so-called ‘miracle bed’ and brutally lashed the soles of my feet with a thick cable,” he said.

He was kept blindfolded in solitary confinement under various tortures, and he literally wished to die a hundred times.

He was repeatedly beaten and tortured for protesting prison conditions.

He has asked his family not to visit him anymore due to the authorities’ harassment.
