A member of Iran’s Baha’i community was arrested on March 16th and released a day later .
Kourosh Sedghi had heard of Mrs. Lisa Tebian being arrested a few days ago from the room next door, according to an informed source.
Authorities threatened Sedghi to attack his son and seal his shop too, attempting to pressure him to cooperate with the Ministry of Intelligent and provide information on other Baha’is.
In another development in Tehran, Iranian authorities have expelled a Baha’ii college student for her adherence to Baha’i faith.
Afrooz Zabihi was deprived of continuing her higher education after passing 90 academic units in the fifth term, for being a member of Iran’s Baha’i community.
Ms. Zabihi passed talented students tests during her elementary and high school, and has won various scientific awards. Nevertheless, she was not allowed to continue her studies in special talent schools.
Hundreds of Baha’is were expelled from universities, had their businesses shuttered or their properties confiscated following the Islamic revolution in 1979. Iranian authorities have carried out a series of raids and arrests of Baha’is faculty and staff during the past years.
Baha’is have faced discrimination in law and practice, including in education, employment and inheritance, and were persecuted for practicing their faith.
