A member of the Tehran City Council, Shahrbanoo Amani, made a speech on women’s issues.
“We extended our trust, and the result of that trust was that we were forced to stay at home. In many villages in the past, women’s IDs were in the pockets of men and they knew who to vote for,” she said… “Today we are returning to the rules that we had in past and we have laws including the fact that women are only allowed to leave the country and get passports with their husband’s consent, there are child custody concerns for women, and then there is the marriage of Godfathers with their goddaughters,” she added. She also said that there were 15,000 widows under the age of 15 in the country. (the state-run ISNA news agency – Mar. 8, 2018)
