Reports indicate that in the past few days and amidst demonstrations in Khuzestan Province, agents of the Intelligence Agency in Shush have increased the abuse, threats and pressures on the family of political prisoner Maher Ka’ibi.

In addition to Maher who is detained in the Central Ardabil Prison away from his hometown in Shush, the other son of this family, Ahmad Ka’bi has been detained in Kerman Prison while suffering from severe arthritis and severe back pain. Both brothers have been detained far away from their hometown. They were also severely tortured while detained in a detention center in Ahwaz. They are now suffering from ailments as a result of the torture.

The mother of these two political prisoners suffers from heart problems and the recent threats and pressures have aggravated her condition. Her doctor has said that that her ailments and heart problems are the result of stress.

Detained student Maher Ka’bi, who was born in 1992, was detained in 2011 at the age of 19 in Shush located in Khuzestan Province and spent three months in solitary cell while under interrogated. He was sentenced to 10 years of prison to be spent in a prison in exile on charges of acting against national security and membership in the Ahwaz Liberation Organization. According to those close to him, he was not affiliated with any groups.
