Evin Prison’s authorities have banned all outside communications to family and friends of Farangis Mazloumi.

Ms. Farangis Mazloumi had telephone calls with her family every Saturday. But unlike the routine process of the last three weeks, this week she was not allowed to make the telephone call.

Prison authorities have issued a 300 million toman bail for her release, which her family cannot afford.

Mrs. Mazloumi, the mother of a prominent political prisoner, Soheil Arabi, was arrested by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) and sent to Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison on July 21, 2019.

She was arrested only for defending her son. Given her history of heart problems, her family is very worried.

She is being kept in Evin’s ward 209 where is the detention center for Iran’s political prisoners and is said to be run by Iran’s Intelligence Ministry. It is also thought to be beyond the control of bodies like Iran’s prisons authority.

All outside calls or contacts to Farangis Mazloum have been cutoff.

Her son, Sohei Arabi, photographer, blogger and civil activist, was arrested in December 2013 by the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and sentenced to death for insulting the Prophet and other sanctities.

Arabi was kept two months isolated in solitary confinement and subjected to relentless interrogations in Ward 2A, where is under the control of the IRGC.

In July 2015, his death sentence was commuted to 7.5 years in prison. But then again, in October 2018, he was sentenced to another 3 years in prison and exile to Borazjan, in southern Iran.
