Iran Sentences three dissidents to 20 years in prison

Iran has imposed harsh sentences on a political prisoner and her son and daughter.

According to a knowledgeable source Zahra Safaei, her daughter Prastoo Moeini and her son Mohammad Masoud Moini were handed their sentences by the Branch 23 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court presided over by judge Mohammad Mehdi Shahmirzadi.

Zahra Safaei has been sentenced to five years for “assembly and collusion” and one year for “spreading propaganda against the state,” one year for “spreading propaganda against the state”, and 2 years for “insulting Khamenei and Khomeini,” totaling eight years behind bars.

Safaei’s daughter Parastoo Moeini, has been sentenced to five years for “assembly and collusion” and one year for “spreading propaganda against the state” totaling six years behind bars.

Safaei’s son Mohammad Masoud Moini has been sentenced to five years for “assembly and collusion” and one year for “spreading propaganda against the state.”

The court issued long-term and inhumane sentences against the three dissidents while they have denied the charges.

Born in 1962, Zahra Safaei is the daughter of a renowned merchants of Tehran Bazaar, Hassan Ali Safaei. He was a political prisoner under the Shah and was executed by the clerical regime in summer 1981.

Security forces arrested Safaei in Tehran on February 24, 2020, for supporting the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran. They also arrested Parastoo Moini, her daughter. They were subsequently transferred to the Intelligence Ministry’s detention center (Ward 209 of Evin Prison). Parastoo Moini was transferred to Qarchak Prison in early March 2020.

On June 28, 2020, Zahra Safaei had been temporarily released from Qarchak Prison, until the end of her trial, on bail of 300 million Toman. But she was rearrested on July 26, 2020, when she referred to the Prosecutor’s Office of Evin Prison to review her case and that of her daughter. On July 27, 2020, she was transferred to Qarchak Prison.
