Prison authorities have refused to authorize temporary leave for a Kurdish political prisoner to attend his daughter’s funeral.
The kurdish political prisoner Arash Nasri held in Rajai Shahr Prison of Karaj, has recently lost his 15-year-old daughter and requested a few hours furlough to attend her funeral.
After several days of follow-up by him and his family, the grieving father was finally told that Deputy Prosecutor and Assistant Superintendent of Political Prisoners, Amin Vaziri, refused to authorize his leave under the pretext of “insecurity of society, and his security charges”.
Political prisoners in Rajai Shahr Prison’s Ward 4 on Wednesday, March 24, protested Amin Vaziri’s inhuman act by covering the ward’s security cameras, stating that the reason for their protest was the “denial of furlough for their cellmate.”
Kurdish political prisoner Arash Nasri was arrested by security forces in Varamin on December 20, 2019 and taken to Evin Prison.
He was transferred to Raja’i Shahr Prison in February 2020.
The Branch 28 of the revolutionary court presided over by judge Mohammad Moghiseh sentenced him on August 15, 2020, to a total of 17 years in prison.
Moghiseh is known for issuing harsh sentences to activists, dissidents and others.
Arash Nasri is currently being held in Ward 4 of Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj, a major city west of the Iranian capital.
Furlough, temporary leave typically granted to prisoners in Iran for a variety of familial, holiday, and medical reasons, is routinely denied to political prisoners as a form of additional punishment.
