No news on the status of the Kurdish activist, for 56 days

Verishe Moradi, also known as ‘ Ciwana Sine,’ a citizen of Sanandaj, political activist, and women’s rights defender, has been abducted by the Iranian security forces for nearly two months. Her family is kept in the dark regarding her situation and whereabouts.

According to reports received by Iran Human Rights Monitor (IranHRM), Verishe Moradi, a women’s rights defender and member of the Kurdish Women’s Society for Freedom (KJAR), was abducted by security forces on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, in the outskirts of Sanandaj, while traveling from Marivan to Sanandaj. She has been probably detained by the IRGC Intelligence forces.

According to an informed source, Verishe Moradi has been subjected to severe torture, including physical beatings, during her detention. Despite her severe injuries, Verishe Moradi has been transferred to an undisclosed location without any medical attention.

The 56-day disappearance of this citizen has concerned the Moradi family. No information is available regarding the reasons for her arrest, place of detention, or the charges against her. Due to Verisheh Moradi’s enforced disappearance, she has been deprived of access to legal representation, and she is unable to make phone calls or have visits with her family.

The Iran Human Rights Monitor (IranHRM) calls upon the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran and other human rights organizations to take urgent action regarding the enforced disappearance of Verisheh Moradi.
