The Life of Political Prisoner Jaber Sakhravi is in Danger
Political Prisoner Jaber Sakhravi, who has been imprisoned for nearly 10 years without a single day of furlough, is in critical and perilous physical conditions.
On the afternoon of Thursday, July 10, 2024, Jaber Sakhravi, a political prisoner suffering from multiple sclerosis (MS), experienced a stroke in Shiban Prison, Ahvaz. As a result of the stroke, he lost consciousness.
He is unable to walk, his mouth is crooked, and his speech has become slow and incomprehensible. Due to his critical physical condition, the political prisoner has been transferred to a hospital outside the prison, and there is no further information available about his current status.
Mr. Sakhravi, in addition to his multiple sclerosis, suffers from physical problems such as right leg paralysis, testicular swelling, and stomach pain. Despite his family providing the necessary medications for him, the prison authorities refrain from delivering the medications to him.
Jaber Sakhravi, a 39-year-old Arab political prisoner, is a computer engineer from Alavi neighborhood in Ahvaz. In March 2015, he was arrested by intelligence agents on charges of membership in opposition groups. He was held in an unofficial detention center and subjected to torture for three months. On June 17, 2015, he was transferred to Karoun Prison in Ahvaz.
Political prisoner Jabar Sakhravi, in Branch 4 of the Revolutionary Court in Ahvaz under the presidency of Judge Sha’oubi, was initially sentenced to 14 years in prison on charges of insurgency.
Additionally, he was sentenced to 6 months in prison for his activities promoting opposition against the system. However, in a subsequent retrial at the Ahvaz Court of Appeals under the presidency of Judge Saeed Koosha, his sentence was revised, and he was sentenced to 12 years and 5 months in prison, overturning the previous verdict.
Jabar Sakhravi has spent ten years in Karoun and Shiban prisons without any medical furlough. He has two years remaining from his sentence.
