39th Week of Hunger Strike in the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign Across 21 Prisons in the Country
The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign condemns the systematic executions in Iran, urging political, civil, labor, and human rights activists and institutions—alongside conscientious voices within Iran and internationally—to stand against these repressive acts.
Tuesday, October 22, 2024, marks the 39th consecutive week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, which now extends across 23 prisons nationwide. In a significant act of solidarity, prisoners in Shiban Prison in Ahvaz have publicly declared their support for the campaign in a newly released statement.
The 39th-week statement of the campaign reiterates its unwavering opposition to the issuance and enforcement of death sentences. The statement calls for a unified, social response to end these practices, emphasizing that only through resistance, solidarity, and collective will can the machinery of state-sanctioned execution be dismantled and the foundation of such inhumane rulings be challenged in our homeland.

39th Hunger Strike in the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign Across 23 Prisons
As we mark the anniversary of the “2022 Protests” and honor the memory of those who lost their lives in that movement, Iran faces mounting internal and external crises. Amid these tensions, executions have surged dramatically; in the month of Mehr alone, over 140 individuals, including five women, have been hanged.
Reports from the past week indicate that nearly 35 individuals were executed, with 17 hanged on the 25th of Mehr. In another act of repression, four Arab political prisoners facing death sentences were transferred to solitary confinement in Shiban Prison in Ahvaz, putting their lives at grave risk. In response to these escalating executions, a group of political prisoners in Shiban Prison has declared their support for the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign by joining it in a unified statement.
The “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign condemns the systematic execution of prisoners and calls upon political, civil, labor, and human rights activists and institutions—as well as all conscientious individuals, both within Iran and internationally—to confront this repression. Opposing the issuance and enforcement of death sentences must be a part of society’s demands today. Achieving this goal requires resistance, solidarity, and collective will. Together, we can halt this machinery of death and dismantle the foundations of such inhumane practices in our homeland.
